Xolalpa’s short-film “Mrs. King” to screen at the 9th Annual Collaboration Filmmakers Challenge

As Xolalpa gears up to premiere his much anticipated film MELANCOLiA, starring pop star Alessandra Rosaldo, he is making a quick stop at the Collaboration Filmmakers Challenge with his short film “Mrs. King” starring Mexican stars Karyme Lozano, Victoria Del Rosal and Ilean Almaguer.

The film follows the life of Gloria (Lozano) a homeless woman who fights fearlessly for a second chance at life. In under 6 minutes, Xolalpa manages to tell a compelling story about an issue that is close to his heart. An issue that’s growing day by day. And let us just say this: you might be expecting Xolalpa’s traditional style of filmmaking with very long-detailed shots filled with nothing but silence. In Mrs. King, he does it all differently.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the CFC, The CFC was founded in 2012 by Joe Gressis, a filmmaker based in Los Angeles. An idea came to him one afternoon as he spoke with a friend about a string of local seminars designed to inspire young filmmakers. As they discussed ways to foster industry relationships, he proposed a hypothesis: The best way to get filmmakers to work together… is to have them actually work together. It’s an admittedly simple idea, but one that seemed conspicuously absent from the filmmaking landscape. She countered with an idea of her own: “Come up with a good plan and I’ll help you get it off the ground.” Joe went straight to work and so began the creative experiment of the Collaboration Filmmakers Challenge, or as Xolalpa likes to call it, “The Film Festival that saved my life.”

The festival will take place this Friday at the Harmony Gold Theater at 6:30PM. Click on the link below for more information and to see the entire lineup. See you all on Friday!
