Dominican-American filmmaker Yissendy Trinidad celebrated a major milestone this past weekend as her feature directorial debut, One Guy, Too Many Dates, made its festival premiere at the Dominican Film Festival in New York, just days after securing worldwide distribution through One Tree Entertainment.
The independently produced romantic comedy premiered on Saturday, August 8, marking Trinidad’s arrival as a feature filmmaker after more than a decade working across film and television as an actress, writer, producer and assistant director.
The premiere comes on the heels of a worldwide distribution agreement with One Tree Entertainment, positioning the multicultural romantic comedy for audiences beyond the festival circuit and underscoring the growing demand for independent films led by diverse voices.
Written, directed, produced by and starring Trinidad, One Guy, Too Many Dates represents a true auteur debut. Developed through her Latina-owned production company, Trinidad Entertainment Group, the film reflects her long-standing commitment to telling multicultural stories while creating opportunities for underrepresented talent both in front of and behind the camera.
The story follows Emily, a software engineer who creates an innovative dating app after becoming frustrated with modern dating. Designed to revolutionize the search for love, the platform instead unleashes unexpected chaos when several women discover they have all been dating the same man. What begins as a lighthearted romantic comedy evolves into a story about friendship, identity, empowerment and navigating relationships in an increasingly digital world.
While rooted in humor, the film explores timely themes surrounding technology, self-discovery and the complexities of modern romance through a multicultural ensemble cast.
Trinidad is best known for her acting work in Babylon, Mayans M.C. and You’re Not Alone. Behind the camera, she has served as a First Assistant Director on Tubi Original productions and directed commercial campaigns for brands including El Cristiano Tequila and DNERO Wallet. One Guy, Too Many Dates marks her most ambitious creative undertaking to date, placing her at the center of every major aspect of the production.
