Actor and filmmaker Adrián Salas has completed principal photography on his feature directorial debut, an independently produced psychological thriller centered on obsession, emotional manipulation, infidelity and unresolved trauma.
The untitled film is now in post-production following its Los Angeles shoot, marking a major career step for Salas as he expands from acting into feature filmmaking.
The story follows Emma Tramell, a woman attempting to rebuild her life after being released from a psychiatric institution. After marrying Kurt Dos Santos, Emma appears to have found stability, but that sense of control begins to collapse when she enters into an affair with Saul Suárez, a charismatic man who makes clear that he is not seeking a committed relationship.
When Saul rejects the future Emma has imagined for them, her emotional state begins to deteriorate, reigniting psychological struggles she believed were behind her. As her fixation intensifies, the consequences spread beyond the affair itself, pulling Anna Cortez into the conflict and forcing Kurt and Saul to confront the severity of Emma’s unraveling mental state.
What begins as a relationship drama gradually shifts into a suspense-driven thriller as the characters become trapped by deception, obsession and the consequences of impulsive decisions.
Valeria Sweet leads the cast as Emma Tramell, alongside Philip Andre Botello as Saul Suárez, Jacqueline Del Val as Anna Cortez and Edwin Kho as Kurt Dos Santos. Salas also appears in the film as Adam Sarmiento, a pivotal character whose relationships connect several of the story’s central figures.
For Salas, the project represents both a creative transition and an opportunity to approach psychological suspense through a character-focused lens.
“As a director, I wanted to tell a story that was uncomfortable, emotional and deeply human,” Salas said. “Beyond being a thriller, the film explores the consequences of ignoring emotional pain and how impulsive decisions can permanently alter the lives of everyone involved.”
With principal photography complete, the production is moving into editing, sound design, original score composition and color grading. Festival submissions and distribution plans are expected to be announced at a later date.
Salas’ debut arrives amid continued momentum for independently produced Latino-led projects in the United States, as filmmakers increasingly build feature-length work outside traditional studio systems.
By combining psychological suspense with an intimate examination of trauma and emotional instability, Salas is positioning the film as a character-driven entry into the independent thriller space while establishing himself as a filmmaker to watch.
