Global superstar, The Weeknd aka Abel Makkonen Tesfaye took the stage for night two of his After Hours Till Dawn Tour at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium. Four songs into his set and the lights went out, we thought it was sound issues, then he came on stage and announced he lost his voice.

The energy inside SoFi Stadium went from one hundred to zero really quickly, we heard someone yell “he’s joking,” but he wasn’t. The Weeknd told the crowd:

I wanted to come out and apologize, I don’t knopw what just happened, but I just lost my voice. I don’t want to cancel, but I can’t give you the show I want to give you. I’ll make sure you are all good, get your money back. I’ll announce another show soon, you know how much this kills me, I’m sorry, I love you all so much.

As soon as The Weeknd walked off the stage, the crowd started chanting, “Abel, Abel, Abel,” some started leaving while others sat down in disbelief. One attendee turned around and asked, “he has to be joking, this can’t be real?” they were on the verge of tears. A few minutes passed and the house lights came on, security started telling attendees to head to the nearest exit.

The Weekend took to social media and posted:

My voice went out during the first song and I’m devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped. My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I’ll make it up to you with a new date.

Having the opportunity to experience the energy from the crowd, seeing everyone up on their feet singing and dancing, even if it was only four songs, was phenomenal. Yes, it’s devastating that the show was canceled, but we hope The Weeknd gets the rest he deserves, we send him all the good vibes.

Here’s to hoping that once he announces the rescheduled show, we’re able to cover that show as well. In the meantime, watch a recap of the songs The Weeknd performed before he went off stage.
