Acclaimed film Màquina, directed by Joaquim Adrià Pujol, is heading to Hollywood for its Los Angeles premiere at the Indiewood Film Festival on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 9:45 p.m.
The 90-minute film arrives at Indiewood following growing critical attention for its deeply personal exploration of addiction, family trauma and the fragile possibility of healing.
Directed, produced and shot by Pujol, Màquina follows a father and son traveling across the American West in an aging Winnebago while seeking ibogaine-assisted addiction treatment in Colorado.
But what begins as a road trip quickly becomes something far more intimate.
Pujol turns the camera toward his own family, with his father, Xavi Pujol Berlanga, and brother, Marcel Enric Pujol, becoming the emotional center of a story shaped by arguments, silence, humor, tenderness and the complicated realities of trying to change.
As the family moves across the country, their aging Winnebago repeatedly breaks down, becoming a visual reflection of relationships struggling to hold together under the weight of addiction and unresolved trauma.
Rather than presenting treatment as an easy solution, Màquina asks a more complicated question: What does it actually take to change, and what does loving someone through addiction cost the people around them?
That raw approach has already earned the film strong critical notices.
At its core, Màquina is as much a film about family as it is about recovery.
Pujol places himself inside the story rather than observing from a distance, capturing the emotional dynamics between fathers and sons, inherited wounds, codependency and the often-blurred line between supporting someone and becoming consumed by their struggle.
The film features Xavi Pujol Berlanga, Marcel Enric Pujol, Joaquim Adrià Pujol, Charles B. Shaw, John Dias, John Anthony Dias, Hana Farky, Dennis Bouverie, Gerardo Ortiz, Bryan Davis and Shawn Johnson.
Vesta Tučkutė produces alongside Pujol, with Silvija Vilkaitė-Ramanauskė serving as editor and Jozef van Wissemcomposing the score. Pujol also serves as cinematographer.
The Indiewood Film Festival screening marks the Los Angeles premiere of Màquina and brings the film to Hollywood audiences as part of the festival’s 2026 edition.
Presented in English and Spanish, the 2025 U.S. film runs 90 minutes.
