Luis Gerardo Méndez to Star In and Co-Direct “Technoboys” with Gerardo Gatica for Netflix

Luis Gerardo Méndez’s career has stood out for his great performances and chameleonic characters. Now, he returns to Netflix not only in the leading role but also as co-director with Gerardo Gatica in Technoboys.

Twenty years after topping the pop charts, the successful boyband Technoboys returns to the stage to reclaim their throne in the ruthless world of pop. But on their road to success, they will face a changing world they barely understand, the fear of being canceled, the return of their techno-merengue sworn enemies, and lead vocalist Alan’s hidden agenda and the real reason behind his return.

Luis Gerardo Méndez said:

Ever since my first movie 20 years ago, I was deeply curious about being on the other side of the camera. I was always very open with my directors about that desire to direct, and they were all incredibly generous with their knowledge over the years. I have been fortunate enough to have had great mentors who have helped me take this leap.

As co-director with my partner in Cine Vaquero, Gerardo Gatica, this has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Film is a collaboration, and having a friend and partner in crime in the chair next to mine makes the process less lonely, and helps you think things through when making decisions.

I had had the chance to direct a couple of episodes of Club de Cuervos with my friends from Netflix, so it was only natural and exciting to take the next step with them.

From the moment I first read Technoboys, I knew I could tell this story and that we had the perfect team to put it on the screen.

Gerardo Gatica added:

We spent many years dreaming up and developing a story hand-in-hand with Alexandro Aldrete and Gabriel Nuncio, and I couldn’t be more excited or more grateful with the wonderful team at Netflix for putting their trust in us to bring this movie to millions of people worldwide. And, of course, with my partner, friend, co-director, accomplice: Luis Gerardo Méndez, for joining me on this adventure and making this movie his own, in front of and behind the camera.
