Soccer superstar Lionel Messi will serve as the inspiration for a new show by Cirque du Soleil, set for debut in 2019.
Messi has partnered with Cirque and Argentina’s PopArt Music, which was also behind Cirque’s recent show based on rock group Soda Stereo. The circus-based spectacular also counts on the participation of Sony Music, though the show’s musical elements have not yet been revealed.
According to Cirque, the show will “leap into the passionate world of football” and “celebrate Messi’s legacy in Cirque du Soleil’s signature way, highlighting the rich culture that makes this sport the most popular worldwide.”
