Dr. Angel Contreras Cruz Releases Powerful New Book Exploring the Untold Emotional Reality of Immigration in the United States

Mexican researcher, author, and academic Angel Contreras Cruz officially announces the release of his highly anticipated new book, Lessons Nobody Tells You About Migrating: Memoirs of an Immigrant in the United States, a deeply personal and emotionally resonant work that gives voice to the invisible experiences carried by millions of immigrants pursuing a new life in America.

Set for release on May 8, 2026, the book moves beyond immigration paperwork and policy discussions to confront the emotional truths rarely spoken about publicly: the grief of leaving family behind, the loneliness of starting over, the pressure to survive in an unfamiliar system, and the painful process of rebuilding identity far from home.

Through raw storytelling, personal reflections, and hard-earned lessons from more than a decade living in the United States, Contreras Cruz captures the emotional weight of migration with honesty and vulnerability. The book speaks directly to the immigrant experience—particularly within Latino communities—where sacrifice, survival, ambition, and resilience often coexist with isolation, exhaustion, and silent grief.

“This book is not just about crossing borders. It’s about what happens emotionally when you are forced to rebuild your life while trying to survive,” says the author.

At a time when immigration conversations are often reduced to politics and headlines, Lessons Nobody Tells You About Migrating centers the human experience behind migration and highlights the emotional cost of chasing the so-called American Dream.

Dr. Contreras Cruz earned his Ph.D. in Engineering and Technology Management from Portland State University, where his research focused on immigration policies affecting immigrant technology professionals in the United States. Throughout his career, he has also worked extensively in sustainability, pollution prevention, environmental justice, and community outreach while contributing to international conferences, academic publications, and bilingual educational initiatives serving Hispanic communities.

His work uniquely bridges academic rigor with lived experience, allowing him to explore immigration not only as a political or economic issue, but as a deeply human and generational emotional journey.

In addition to his academic and professional work, Angel is a content creator, podcast host, and public speaker focused on identity, immigrant experiences, personal growth, and cultural storytelling. He currently lives in Oregon with his wife and two daughters.
